Causes and Treatment Methods of Common Problems of Wire Cutting Molybdenum Wire

Introduction to wire-cutting molybdenum wire

Wire-cut molybdenum wire is a kind of molybdenum product with refractory metal molybdenum (Mo) as the main raw material. It is a kind of fine wire made by forging and drawing molybdenum strips, which is a kind of cutting wire on wire-cut machine tools, and its diameter is generally between 0.12 and 0.20 mm.

Characteristics of wire-cutting molybdenum wire

Wire-cut molybdenum wire has the basic characteristics of metallic molybdenum, mainly in terms of high melting point, high density, large hardness, low resistivity, low coefficient of thermal expansion, corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance and heat resistance

Principle of broken wire and handling method

Wire breakage at first cut

  • The machining current is too high and the feed is unstable; adjust the power supply parameters to reduce the machining current, and then increase the machining current when the workpiece is cut into and no sparks flash from the workpiece wall.
  • The electrode wire shakes a lot; check whether the electrode wire is too loose or inconsistent everywhere; check whether the wire transport mechanism, such as the guide wheel, the wire cylinder, etc., has any abnormal beating or vibration and adjust it.
  • workpiece surface burr, oxide layer or sharp edge; remove burr, oxide layer or sharp edge, such as oxide layer is also available in high current, large pulse width cut into the regular wire breakage, more on one side or two sides of the wire breakage when changing direction, wire cylinder change direction, failure to cut off the high-frequency power supply in time, so that the electrode wire burned off

 Sudden breakage during cutting

  • Improper choice of parameters, too much current; turn down the pulse width, turn up the pulse interval, or reduce the number of power tubes
  • Improper feed adjustment, frequent fast and slow circuit breakage; adjust feed speed
  • Improper use of the working fluid, such as the working fluid is too light, too long and too dirty; adjust the working fluid in proportion
  • Clogged lines, too little or no working fluid flow; clean the lines and make sure the lower spigot has more flow than the upper spigot
  • The Power Feed Contact for EDM is not in contact with the electrode wire or has been dented by the wire, resulting in poor contact or a broken wire; replace the block or relocate it.
  • When cutting high thickness workpieces, the gap is too small or the concentration of the working fluid used is too low; use DX-2 or above to improve, but DX-3 must be mixed with DX-1 for good results, and the concentration must be lower than the general workpiece cutting
  • Poor performance of the pulse power elimination diode, large negative waves in the processing, so that the electrode wire cutting loss increased in a short period of time; replace the high frequency oscillation board
  • Poor quality or poor storage of electrode wire, making it oxidised, or using inappropriate tools to open the wire when it is attached, causing damage; note that the sealing and attachment of electrode wire must be done with professional tools
  • When cutting high thickness workpieces, the electrode wire diameter is not selected properly or used for too long, so that the diameter of the electrode wire is too small; workpieces over 150mm must use an electrode wire of 0.18mm or more, less than 0.13mm electrode wire is not suitable for cutting high thickness workpieces
  • The speed of the wire cylinder is too slow, causing the electrode wire to stay in the working area for too long; check whether the wire cylinder motor reaches the rated speed, whether the dragging plate is rotating flexibly, whether there are foreign objects in the wire cylinder grips when the workpiece is close to the end of the cut wire deformation of the workpiece, clip off the electrode wire (before the break will be more short-circuit phenomenon) or the workpiece falls off the electrode wire Select the appropriate cutting line and material, use a magnet to absorb the workpiece or use the wire clip to hold it when the cut is almost finished.
